KETCHIKAN (KDN) â The Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center announced two new cases of COVID-19 and one new hospitalization on Thursday.
Statewide, 213 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded on Wednesday by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. Alaskaâs total number of vaccine doses administered also topped 200,000 on Thursday.
Both of the new local cases were still under investigation â as to the source of the infections and potential close contacts â on Thursday, according to an evening press release from the Emergency Operations Center.
âDuring the contact investigations, Public Health will coordinate with the positive person to reach out to anyone who may be a close contact and instruct them to quarantine,â the release noted.
The local case recorded on Tuesday involved a close contact of a known positive case.
Of Ketchikan s 290 cumulative cases, 150 have involved close contacts of a known positive case.
Seventeen local cases were considered to be active on Tuesday â nine less active cases than was reported on Monday, according to the online EOC dashboard.
One individual was hospitalized on Tuesday in the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center COVID-19 unit.
In total, 29,778 COVID-19 tests have been collected in Ketchikan. Tests conducted on or before Saturday at the Berth 3 drive-up testing site were processed. Individuals who have not been contacted by health officials tested negative at that time.
