The issue of abortion, making sure that women in their states and across the country had access. So that was something that they thought carefully about. Its different, i guess, when theyre voting on an issue rather than putting somebody up on the court who may or may not hold those beliefs. Its also going to be interesting to see, jake, tonight how much the president speaks before actually getting to what everyone is gathered here to hear. Yeah, because he loves this moment. Gorsuch, you might remember, during that rocky first half of his first year gorsuch was one of the moments that went off pretty well, whatever you think of him as a judge or as a nominee. That announcement went well compared to so many other things in the First Six Months of his presidency. And, look, i mean this is a president who weve made it to 9 01, and we still do not know for sure who it is. And there is the president. Lets listen in. [ applause ] my fellow americans, tonight i speak to you from the east roo
Theres a lot there. That made mcconnell nervous. He wanted one of the two short listers with much, much less successful records because he wants it done by september. The speck haitian that i was referring to, the kavanaugh edition to the list from which President Trump was reportedly choosing, that it may have been designed to encourage Justice Kennedy to retire. I think the predictability. The fact that george w. Bush would have picked him, ted cruz, mitt romney would have picked him, tells you this would have been done by the heritage society, theyve almost entirely control the process. Typical traditional pick. This is not an alarming or whacky pick. This is the live shot that youre seeing is the east room. Were expecting the president to arrive essentially now to make this nomination. Again, nbc news reporting that the nominee will be judge Brett Kavanaugh. My fellow americans, tonight i speak to you from the east room of the white house regarding one of the most profound responsi
Without political interference and im here to tell anybody in the country who listens that this is so hypocritical of my friends on the other side. When it was their president kavanaugh was right. When youre talking about roe v. Wade, its okay to promise the nation it will never be overturned. Its okay to pick a democratic staff member of this committee but its not okay to pick somebody whos been a lifelong republican. People see through this. You had a chance and you lost. If you want to pick judges from your way of thinking then you better win an election. I voted for two of your choices, sotomayor and kagen. I got a lot of crap. I would suggest you think long and hard if you got a political ambition for voting this guy because it will not play well on your side and why did i do it . I thought they were qualified by any reasonable measure given the history of the senate, but we have turned the history of the senate upside down. I found that they were different than i would have picke
