Salem on the Edge Art Gallery will celebrate its 1-year anniversary with music and food on Saturday, July 24.
With the challenges this past year brought wildfires, ice storms and a pandemic Melanie Weston, the gallery owner, is grateful for the many people who have stepped through the doors of Salem on the Edge and interacted with the artwork inside.
For Weston, that s what it s all about. She enjoys watching people engage with the work to the point where they want to take it home and hang it on their own wall.
Salem on the Edge Art Gallery has hosted a number of exhibitions and is currently featuring some Salem-area artists in a group show.
Dozens run to raise awareness for the unidentified buried at Chemawa

Dozens of people took part in a 49-mile relay Saturday to Chemawa Indian School, intent on raising awareness for the indigenous youth buried in unmarked graves on the Salem campus.
While some took part in a relay-style run starting at the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Oregon City and made their way through Willamette Valley cities Canby and Woodburn to Chemawa, about 20 cars and pickups followed them in a caravan to Salem.
A group of men chanted and drummed as the runners entered the cemetery adjacent to the Chemawa campus in North Salem about 2 p.m. Saturday.
Inauguration Day will come and go. Violent domestic extremism may be around for a while

WASHINGTON When it’s over, it won’t be over.
On alternative social media, self-styled militia and patriot websites and hate-group platforms like that of the Proud Boys, the message is the same: There are no plans to fade away after Joe Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration.
“There’s no reason to believe that the problem we encountered in the U.S. Capitol on the 6th (of January) will dissipate,” warns Paul Joyal, a security expert who pointed to FBI alerts about possible political violence. “That in and of itself is evidence of a wide-ranging network of men of violence who are willing to take the law into their own hands.”
