VisitAberdeenshire launched the ‘Our Aberdeen is Your Aberdeen’ initiative this week to promote the city to potential visitors from other places in Scotland and from the north of England. Local residents, as well as Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett, have been starred in a video speaking about all the region has to offer. A range of landmarks have been selected to show the diversity of attractions available for visitors, such as Aberdeen Art Gallery to the beach and Kirkhill Forest.

Aberdeen City Council is aiming to close schools for an extra day – as well as giving the go-ahead for some services to be stood down or partially stopped while the city is in level four. Councillors held an urgent business committee over Aberdeen’s move to level four alongside the rest of mainland Scotland from Boxing Day. In the meeting, it was approved that Aberdeen City Council should seek an agreement from the Scottish Government to state that an additional closure day should be given on January 5 to allow planning to take place for the safe return of vulnerable children and the children of key workers to school.

Sign Up It’s claimed a new Aberdeen-wide contact tracing system would have made “instant” work of August’s coronavirus outbreak, which plummeted the city into a second lockdown. The 4Entry scheme – which, it is hoped, will be adopted by shops, cafes, bars, restaurants and their customers – is an effort to regain the confidence of the public in Aberdeen and further afield that venues are safe, after being forced to close for three weeks as a result of the Covid cluster.
