The boat had at least 150 people onboard traveling from the Borgu district in Niger state to Kebbi, according to the news outlet. The death toll rose to 53 people on Thursday after more passengers were found, Abdullahi Buhari, chairman of Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State, told CNN. Most of the passengers are believed to be traders.
