Maiduguri, Borno state capital is currently under Boko Haram attack.
Military sources told SaharaReporters that the insurgents stormed the Jiddari general area of the town around 6:30pm on Tuesday, firing shots into the air.

The area is where Giwa Barracks, a military detention centre is located.
Since 2014, the facility has been attacked multiple times by Boko Haram, as prisoners in the facility are mostly confirmed or suspected members of the sects and their families.
“They came with suicide bombers to attack the facility again,” a colonel in the army told SaharaReporters.
SaharaReporters gathered that the attack happened on Friday, May 7, 2021 around 8 am.

The Nigerian Military has abandoned soldiers trapped in Sambisa Forest after the troops were dislodged by Boko Haram terrorists.

Seventy-two hours after the attack and the retreat by the troops, the command headquarters of the Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, has not made any effort to rescue the soldiers.
Military sources revealed to Sahara Reporters that the soldiers, many of whom are wounded, have been trickling into Maiduguri since the incident.
A source, however, said the majority of the soldiers have not returned and there are no attempts by the military authorities to rescue them.

Militants belonging to the Islamic State-backed faction of Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jamā at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da wah wa l-Jihād, have Allegedly killed many Nigerians soldiers in Borno State.
According to the group in a statement sighted by SaharaReporters on Monday night, the soldiers were killed recently during different attacks on Nigerian troops along Auno/Jakana Road, Monguno/Cross Kauwa Road, Goniri/Gorigi Road, Gur, Mainok, and Gorigi town.
