The protracted leadership crisis rocking the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new twist following calls for the removal of Senator Khairat Gwadabe, a sister to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, from the Membership Registration Appeal Panel set up by the Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee by some aggrieved founding members the party in the state.
The call for Khairat’s removal is coming on the heels of the fierce struggle for the control of the soul of the party in the state between the governor and some aggrieved leaders over the second term ticket for 2023 as the next electioneering campaign beckons.
Afaction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, known as Integrity Group, has kicked against the inclusion of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaqâs elder sister, Senator Khairat Gwadabe in the 61-member APC national revalidation/appeal committee.
The committee was setup following allegation by a group that it was disenfranchised during the registration and revalidation exercise in the state, which was marred by intra-party crisis.
In the statement, signed by the groupâs media director and publicity, Comrade Abdulrahoof Bello, the group said âthe appointment of Hajia Gwadabe is fraught with illogicality, nepotism and assault on democratic values.
âIf the objective of the 61-member appeal committee is to rectify injustice that arose from the controversial membership registration and revalidation exercise in the state, then Hajia Gwadabe is unsuitable and noble mission of the committee stands defeated on arrival,â he said.
