Faryab Residents Fear Clashes Will Intensify as Spring Nears Faryab residents on Friday said they are concerned about increasing insecurity in the northern province as many districts have witnessed clashes over the last week and that the fighting will intensify on the arrival of the spring season. Faryab police said seven out of 14 districts of the province have witnessed deadly clashes between the security forces and the Taliban over the last week. “People are concerned because the spring season is near and they fear that the clashes will intensify, more people will displace and more people are killed,” said Asadullah Jamali, a resident of Faryab.

Afghan Journalist Wounded in Armed Attack in Faryab An Afghan journalist was Qutbuddin Kohi was wounded in an attack by unidentified armed men the city of Maimana in the northern province Faryab on Thursday evening.  Kohi, who works as a journalist with the Pajhwok News Agency, was on the way to his home when he was attacked by unidentified armed men.   “Three bullets were fired. I rushed and as I got back up and I was about to open the car’s door and I saw the gunmen fleeing in a white car,” Kohi explained the incident.  Journalists’ rights organizations said the attacks are concerning and that four journalists and three media workers were killed in targeted attacks in the country in the last five months.

Three civilians were killed and 10 more people, including five civilians, were wounded in a car bomb explosion in Dawlat Abad district in Faryab province, Tolo News quoted Abdul Karim Yurish, the provincial police spokesman adding that it was carried out by the Taliban. Meanwhile, six people, including four civilians, were killed and six more were wounded in an explosion that targeted a military vehicle in Yaqubi district, Khost province, this afternoon, police said.
