GUWAHATI: A lower court in Assam s Hojai district, about 170 km from Guwahati, on Wednesday sent seven of the 24 accused arrested in connection with assaulting an on-duty doctor to three-day police custody and 14 to judicial custody. The remaining three, who claimed to be minors, have been sent to a juvenile home.
On Tuesday afternoon, a mob assaulted doctor Seuj Kumar Senapati and other staff of the Udali Covid care centre (CCC) and damaged the healthcare facility following the death of a Covid-19 patient identified as Giyasuddin. The attackers alleged negligence by the doctor and his medical team for the fatality.
A Saudi expatriate, brutally tortured allegedly by his wife and in-laws in Sadar upazila of Cox's Bazar yesterday, died at Chattogram Medical College Hospital this noon. Manjur Alam (45), son of late Abdul Goni of Cox's Bazar Chowfaldandi area, succumbed to his injures at CMCH around 12:30pm, said Abdul Halim, officer-in-charge of Eidgaon Police Station under the upazila.

Savar Municipality authorities have failed to arrange a landfill or garbage dumping station in its 28 years of establishment, hampering waste management to a great extent.
Due to a lack of designated spot, wastes from households, businesses, healthcare centres, vendors, restaurants and roadside shops are regularly being dumped beside roads and waterbodies, said locals.
