Cops foil two ketum-smuggling attempts, seize leaves worth RM33,390

ARAU: A total of 1113kg of ketum leaves worth RM33,390 were seized from smugglers in two separate operations near the Malaysia-Thailand border. GOF Northern Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said in the first operation, 400kg of ketum leaves were seized during an integrated operation dubbed as Ops Benteng Covid on Friday (Jan 22). Based on information gathered on ketum leaf smuggling activities at the border, 13 intelligence officers and personnel from the Kuala Perlis Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem), Kuala Kedah Marine Police (PPM) Region One and Battalion 18 General Operation Force (GOF) went to Kampung Seberang Alor, Kuala Perlis at about 2:15am, ” he said.

ARAU: A 54-year-old labourer was arrested for allegedly having 230kg of ketum leaves in his possession at Kampung Wai, Kuala Perlis here on Tuesday (Jan 12). GOF Northern Brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the suspect was detained by police during an integrated operation dubbed Ops Benteng that was meant to ensure the security at the borders of Malaysia-Thailand. Based on information gathered on smuggling activities at the border, a team of police from the Battalion 18 General Operation Force (GOF), Kangar police headquarters and Kuala Perlis marine police raided an empty house located next to a river at Kampung Wai at about 2.30am.

KANGAR: The 18th Battalion of the General Operations Force has (GOF) seized 1,050 kg of ketum leaves worth RM252,900 in two operations under Op Benteng conducted at the Malaysia-Thailand border, on Tuesday. GOF Northern Brigade Commander SAC Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said a 54-year-old man was detained at about 2.30 am after he was caught behaving in a suspicious manner at an unnumbered house near Kampung Wai, Kuala Perlis. GOF personnel also conducted an inspection on the suspect’s vehicle and found 23 black plastic packets filled with ketum leaves weighing 230 kg, worth, worth RM6,900, he said in a statement, here today.
