Conference to focus on pandemic impact on museums, cities  19 Apr 2021 - 9:51 By Raynald C Rivera | The Peninsula Doha: The implications of the pandemic to museums and cities will be at the nucleus of a three-day virtual visual arts conference organised by Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI). The continuation of highly engaging sessions which kicked off late last year, The Visual Arts Studies Third Annual Conference 2020-2021 titled “The Future Museum in the Future City” will be streamed via Zoom from April 25 to 27. “In this edition of the conference, we look at the implications of the current pandemic on the futures of museums and cities. We expect the conference to be an open platform for a discussion of the questions concerning the various potential scenarios that are likely to come upon us in the foreseeable future,” wrote Qatar Museums in an e-mail to its Culture Pass members. MADRID .-Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid presents Moroccan Trilogy 1950-2020, a sweeping survey of the culture of Morocco from the 1950s to the present day, running from 31 March - 27 September 2021, in a unique collaboration with Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art – Qatar Museums and Qatar Foundation. The show features more than 250 works by 60 artists, including a series of important works from the collection of Mathaf, as well as archival material drawn from private and public collections. The exhibition also premieres or re-activates a number of works, and includes several new commissions.

Qatar Museums announces spring 2021 exhibitions  27 Jan 2021 - 7:41 The Peninsula Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) has announced several exhibitions that will be presented across its cultural institutions throughout spring 2021.  Members of the community can look forward to exhibitions covering a wider range of interests, including contemporary art, natural history and the art of collecting. On March 7, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art will open “Kader Attia: On Silence”, a major solo exhibition dedicated to the work of the artist over the last two decades, curated by Abdellah Karroum, Director of Mathaf, with Assistant Curator Lina Ramadan.  The exhibition will feature a wide range of work across all media and include site-specific installations, sculptures, collages, drawings, video, and photography. On Silence explores themes of postcolonial trauma and the ensuing decades of psychiatric ‘repair’ at the social and individual level.
