Lebanese Agriculture Minister Abbas Mortada said that only the agriculture sector is capable of guaranteeing food security for the Lebanese while securing access to food at reasonable prices amid the current economic crisis and the unprecedented inflation prevailing in the country. The agreement with WFP is not restricted to offering financial and food support but it also includes developing the infrastructure of the sector, he said, while highlighting the role of cooperatives in spreading information and distributing support to farmers.

WFP Ministry of Education and higher education provide food assistance for families of students attending public schools Format BEIRUT – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) started this week, in close partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE), distributing the first round of food assistance for vulnerable Lebanese and Syrian refugee schoolchildren and their families across Lebanon. The food parcels replace traditional in-school meals children would otherwise be receiving as part of WFP’s nation-wide programme and as schools remain closed.
