Another update on roadside drug testing
In 2016 and 2019, I wrote about the Barbara J. and Thomas J. Swift Law. Under this law, Michigan law enforcement could be given an additional tool as to drivers suspected of operating a motor vehicle after using drugs by allowing qualified officers to collect a roadside saliva sample to be tested for drugs using a handheld device called an oral fluid analyzer.
I wonât repeat everything I said back then except to say that originally there was to be a one year pilot program established by the Michigan State Police in five counties. This was extended for one year by the legislature and became statewide.
