Lebanon on Friday marks the third anniversary of the Beirut port explosion which killed at least 220 people, wounded thousands, and damaged swathes of the city. Judge Fadi Sawan appointed by the justice minister to investigate the blast charged three ex-ministers and Diab with negligence in December 2020.
The stance of the four deputy Lebanese Central Bank governors has become shrouded in ambiguity and confusion after their latest meeting with caretaker Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. They did not announce a clear decision regarding their future, and it remains uncertain whether all four or only two of them will resign if the appointment of a new Central Bank Governor is delayed.
As the presidential vacuum enters its ninth month, the central bank and the army are also facing a leadership void as political divisions hinder appointments.
