Former presidential aspirant, Garba Adamu, withdraws case against Twitter CEO

A former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, on Monday said he had withdrawn the legal suit he instituted against the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Twitter International Company, Jack Dorsey. It will be recalled that Garba had filed the suit against Dorsey before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly sponsoring the #EndSARS protests that rocked some cities in the country. Garba had filed the suit through motion on notice that was brought pursuant to order II Rules 1, 2, 3 of the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules, 2009 and Sections 34(1), 35(1) and 41(1) and 43 of the 1999 Constitution. Announcing the withdrawal on Monday in a tweet, Garba said the purpose of taking the Twitter founder to court had been achieved.

Telcos in Nigeria gain 7 9 million internet subscribers in Q3 2020

Nigeria telecommunication providers increased their internet subscriber base by 7.88 million in the third quarter of 2020 (Q3 2020), according to the latest telecoms report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The total number of internet subscribers increased by 7.87 million (5.48%) in Q3 2020 from 143.6 million recorded in the previous quarter to 151.5 million subscribers. Also, it increased by 28.3 million (23%) as against 123 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2019 (Q3 2019). Highlights As at Q3 2020, MTN held the highest internet market share with 42%. The total number of active internet subscribers for MTN was 64.35 million. Airtel followed with a market share of 27% (40.31 million), Globacom followed closely with a market share of 26% (39.13 million), while 9mobile recorded a market share of 5% (7.3 million).

#EndSARS: Groups seek to join $1bn suit against Twitter

Garba filed the suit against Dorsey over his alleged sponsorship of the recent #EndSARS protests in parts of the country. The groups; Association of West Africa Media Lawyers, Centre for Peace and Conflict Management in Africa and Rethink Africa Foundation, in a motion on notice with suit number: FHC/ABJ/CS/1391/2020 filed by their counsel, Noah Ajare, before Justice Folashade Giwa-Ogunbajo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, averred that the application was in the public interest.
