The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, on Friday paraded a 17-year old girl arrested for being in possession of a pistol.
Promise Idorenyin, an SS2 student of Community Secondary School, Ikot Ewa, in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state was paraded alongside her 38-year old lover, Okon Effiom Edet, who owns the locally-made double barrel pistol.
The Commissioner dismissed initial reports that the girl took the gun to school to shoot her teacher.
CP Akande said the double-barrel gun was discovered in her school bag by the Principal of the school.
“The suspect admitted that the said firearm was given to her by her boyfriend of Abasi Effiom Village in Akpabuyo LGA,” the Commissioner said.

The Niger Police Command has arrested 15 years old Samaki Azozo, a student of Government Science School Izom, over an alleged attempt to kidnap students of the school in Gurara Local Government Area.
Mr Adamu Usman, the state Commissioner of Police, who disclosed this to newsmen in Minna, on Friday, said the suspect, an SS2 student of the school, wrote a letter and posted on the school notice board notifying staff and students about an intended kidnap in the school.
He explained that the letter created tension among staff and students of the school.

NAN reports that Oyedepo in his petition told the court that his wife has destroyed their union.
“Whenever I beat any of our children for misbehaving, Iyabo becomes offended and would slap me.
“She is so disobedient and rude,” Oyedepo said.
In her response, Iyabo consented to the divorce adding that her husband is a womanizer.
She told the court that her husband is clumsy and dirty.
“Yes, I slapped him. But it was because he beat me up and told me to leave his home.
“Moreover, I want this marriage to end because I don’t love him anymore,” she said.
