The senior IPS officer writes letter to Chief Secretary
Senior IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao has urged the State government to take steps for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged forgery and tampering of files by the Director General of Police (DGP).
In a nine-page letter addressed to Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das on Saturday, Mr. Rao requested that the matter be entrusted to the CBI for a thorough investigation.
“Senior officers holding important posts are allegedly involved in the case. Now, the government should evaluate whether their continuance in the same posts could be an impediment to a fair and timely investigation,” said Mr. Venkateswara Rao.

The State government has issued orders extending the suspension of senior IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao, who is in the rank of Director-General of Police, for six months. Orders to this effect were issued on Tuesday.
A 1989 batch officer, Mr. Venkateswara Rao, was placed under suspension under Rule 3 (1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, on charges of misconduct in procuring security equipment while he was working as Additional DGP (Intelligence).
Articles of charges have been framed in December, last year, and the same has been communicated to the officer.
The Review Committee, constituted by the government, has reviewed the suspension and recommended that the suspension of Mr. Venkateswara Rao be extended for 180 days further with effect from August 6, 2020, which was accepted by the competent authority.
Case pertaining to A.B. Venkateswara Rao posted to January 18
The single-judge Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, comprising Justice K. Lalitha Kumari, has directed the police that no coercive steps be taken against IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao, who is accused of committing irregularities in the procurement of surveillance equipment when he was Additional DGP (intelligence).
The court posted the case for next hearing to January 18 even as Advocate-General S. Sriram pleaded on Thursday that the petitioner’s apprehension (of arrest), which led to the filing of an anticipatory bail plea in the High Court (on January 3), was not bona fide, and his approach to the court based on some “entitlement mindset” was unreasonable.
