Multicultural leaders add socials, discussions to build community

Multicultural student organizations have spent the year hosting social events and celebrations to build community among students of color during GW’s virtual semesters. Students of color said they’ve struggled to feel like a part of the student body, leaning predominantly on student groups and the Multicultural Student Services Center to find their close friends and communities. But with the COVID-19 pandemic preventing in-person events, student leaders of multicultural organizations said they’ve upped their programming to include additional community-focused activities to curb feelings of isolation.

SA Senate approves changes to Code of Academic Integrity

Cordelia Scales, SEAS-U and the sponsor of The Code of Academic Integrity Approval Act, said the updates clarify procedures in handling academic integrity violations “in certain situations.” The Student Association Senate unanimously approved legislation to support updating language in the Code of Academic Integrity at a meeting Monday. Updates to the code include allowing certain violations to not remain on a student’s transcript after graduation and requesting “a restorative and educational approach” be taken for “low-level” violations. Senators also approved two co-sponsorship requests amounting in total to more than $40,000 and confirmed three new members to the senate.
