Reading your book. It was fun and fascinating because i think everybody has questions about why do some people get fat and others not get fat. What dont people understand about this. It seems like its been a problem for so long. Why is it still a problem . One of the things i like about your book is that you have a lot of personal stories. Yourself, scientist, people who are struggling with their weight and i was drawn to the book from page one. I think everybody can relate to it. I thought people might like to hear what your book sounds like so i wondered if you could start by reading page one and stop at the end of that anecdote in page two. It was great. This is my personal story about how i got into writing this book. The prologue is called skinny teen. It was a greedy friday evening in the fall in san diego. I was a biochemist, phd student. Consumption of violence, sanctioned violence within the gridiron. I am worried the biggest growing sport in the country is soccer, what all the kids are playing today, not football. Make the distinction that steve made between sub concuss of hits and accumulation of neurological harm is clearly higher in football. If you just look at diagnosed concussions the rate is about the same in football and soccer. But that is why soccer with helmets, you get your head hit more than you would guess. I should add that people often ask me, what if your son wanted to play football . Response would be, if he wants to play pickup football, even tackle football, i did that, got a concussion. Had my shoulder dislocated. Would not stop in print doing that. I do not think that you put kids in giant michelin man outfits. They have to incur risk. That is a part of growing up, managing risk.
