Clackamas County has postponed a swearing-in ceremony for county commissioners. That ceremony had been planned for Wednesday, Jan. 13, but is being rescheduled, the county said, because of recent threats of violence.
County officials said it will provide a new date for the ceremony once they are determined. Additionally, the government said policy and business meetings would return to the streaming platform Zoom for the foreseeable future.
While the brief announcement posted online doesn t mention newly-elected Commissioner Mark Shull the politician has become the isolated center of a firestorm of controversy after Pamplin Media Group first reported on his Facebook posts, which widely deemed to be racist, Islamophobic, anti-immigrant and transphobic.

Aaron Rapf, who was recently elected to the Lake Oswego City Council, was a registered Republican who believed in the power of small government and fiscal responsibility not the actions exhibited by the pro-Trump insurrectionists who stormed the United States Capitol yesterday. What was happening in Washington D.C. was just gross, disrespectful and embarrassing for the country, and then to have the party that I ve believed in for so long to be responsible for it just made me feel dirty and sick, Rapf said.

Looking back on a year that brought social unrest, police reform, the COVID-19 pandemic issues to the forefront.
This year was a challenging year at best. The city of Lake Oswego walked a difficult path along with the rest of the world as people worked to alter their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic, which caught news headlines more than eight months ago after the first patient in Oregon was identified as a Lake Oswego School District employee. Following this news, the city s businesses struggled and still do to stay afloat as restrictions and safety protocols remain tight. But the year ends with a light at the end of the tunnel with news that a vaccine is on its way.
