Valuations of most Des Moines-area shopping malls hold steady while values tumble nationally Wednesday, April 21, 2021 8:00 AM
The outlook appears bleak for many of the nation’s shopping malls, with owners walking away from some properties or readily handing them over to lenders. A recent review by Bloomberg News of 118 shopping centers in the U.S. with commercial mortgage-backed securities loans showed values of the properties plummeted by 60%. In Central Iowa, the outlook for regional shopping centers is more encouraging. A review of newly released assessed valuation data shows four regional shopping centers had minimal changes to the values of their properties. A fifth, Valley West Mall in West Des Moines, saw its valuation drop 25% between 2020 and 2021.

The game of chess can be traced back 1,500 years. It first appeared in the north of India and then spread throughout the Asian continent, eventually making its way to Europe and Canada. In Canada, a chess club was founded in 1844 and a standard form of the game was introduced in Montreal. The Chess Federation of Canada can trace its roots back to the Canadian Chess Association, which was established in Hamilton in 1872. The purpose for this organization was to organize tournaments across the country. Today, the Chess Federation of Canada is recognized by the world governing body of chess.
