Prolific North Loop developer Solhem Cos. is undertaking another project in the neighborhood, with plans to convert the Security Warehouse from offices into mixed-use, multifamily apartment units pending city approval.
The Minneapolis-based developer’s plans include bringing 49 units and retaining approximately 1,700 square feet of office space to the North Loop building, at 724 -728 1st St. N. through a historic renovation. Minneapolis’ Planning Commission was scheduled to consider the project Monday evening.
The nearly 53,700-square-foot Security Warehouse was constructed in 1892 and is one of the few remaining timber frames in Minneapolis from the 1800s. The timber beams will be visible in the housing units, in addition to exposed brick walls and wood ceilings, said Solhem CEO Curt Gunsbury.
