Bahamians continue to perform well in NCAA athletics Sasha Wells. Bahamian collegiate athletes at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I (DI) and Division II (DII) levels continue to put on impressive performances as the indoor track and field season winds down. Sasha Wells continued her impressive NCAA DI indoor run for the Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles when she won three individual events at the Washburn Challenge hosted by Washburn University at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kansas, on Friday. Fellow Bahamian and Golden Eagles athlete Bradley Dormeus won two individual events and was a part of the winning relay that day. Both Bahamians were able to break facility records.

While we are glad to see Firefighters Aaron Charlton and Timothy Stevenson return to duty, we are still disappointed one of our brothers remains unemployed at the hands of city administration, Firefighter Jacob Thornton. Let’s begin with a history lesson. On 1 November 2019, Local 1799 was comprised of 28 men. After the retirement of Firefighter Thomas Beauchamp, membership was reduced to 27. Less than three weeks later, our union signed a contract that promised not only to never replace FF Beauchamp, but also agreed to sacrifice the next three vacant positions, via attrition. FILE It was a busy weekend for Bahamian athletes in indoor action with premier sprinter Shaunae Miller-Uibo leading the way as she opened her season with a national record in the women’s 200 meters (m) at the American Track League Meet #2 at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Saturday. Also at that meet was collegiate jumper LaQuan Nairn. A number of other Bahamian track and field athletes were in action for their respective schools as they continued to perform at a high level on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) scene. Some of those athletes made the best of their season debuts after not competing collegiately since March 2020.
