Area student excels in higher education
Jennifer Tomich, Ocala, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation s oldest all-discipline collegiate honor society. Tomich was initiated at Florida State University.
CF student recognized among 15 nationwide
College of Central Florida student Daniel Goodman was recently named as a Guistwhite Scholar, according to a press release from CF. Winners were selected from among 4,400 applicants nationwide, and their selection was based on academic excellence, leadership accomplishments and engagement in Phi Theta Kappa programs. Goodman was one of 15 members selected and will receive a $5,000 scholarship for baccalaureate studies.

A team of Florida Polytechnic University students earned $3,000 as finalists for the Frank & Ellen Daveler Entrepreneurship Competition through the University of South Florida’s Center for Entrepreneurship. The group also won $2,500 for the development of a gesture-control glove for electric longboards during the 2021 Catapult LAUNCH Pitch Night.

The students applied their STEM knowledge in the creation of a prototype and then went above and beyond applying entrepreneurial skills to turn that idea into reality.
