During the lockdown last year, Kavita Srivastava, whose three decades of activism have won her the respect of the state government, was a leading voice demanding aid for migrant workers trapped in cities or forced to walk back to their home states. Since last month, she has found herself in a new role using her contacts in government to arrange for hospital beds, medicines and oxygen for those in need, as well as overseeing the distribution of water, food and other resources gathered by her organisation. In the process, she has been working with a dozen other NGOs across the state.
