UIDAI has also issued circulars addressing requesting entities, authorized to do authentication/verification, and other entities emphasizing the necessity of verification, and specifying the protocol to be followed.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to a resident of India. To avoid penalties, the government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar to our bank accounts and other services.
Aadhaar card update: As many as 134 crore Aadhaars have been issued till date. Last year, updates and enrolments for this 12-digit biometric identifier added to nearly 20 crore. Of this, 4 crore were new enrolments, a number that includes newborn babies and children up to 18 years.
