Following a turbulent year of steep increases that have seen fuel prices surge to record highs, the relief at the pumps next week could alleviate the pressure as consumers tighten their belts after breaking the bank in the run-up to Christmas.
The Automobile Association said that according to early data from the Central Energy Fund, the price of petrol per litre may increase, and diesel may decrease come next month.
The fuel price hikes announced by the Department of Energy on Monday night would be disastrous for fuel users and consumers across the board, said the Automobile Association.
The association has predicted that petrol will be 11 cents a litre cheaper, while diesel is set to increase by about 22 cents a litre and illuminating paraffin by 21 cents.
