A massive blaze that took about 15 fire departments to control destroyed a Bibb County business Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
The fire at Cahaba Pallets at 90 Airport Rd. in Centreville erupted around 2 p.m. Tuesday, said Centreville Mayor Mike Oakley.
“The owner of the pallet company called 911 when he saw the fire ignite one of the pallets, which is highly flammable,” Oakley said.
Several fire departments from around the area responded within 10 minutes, the mayor said. The departments then put out a call for all Bibb County fire departments to respond.
“When they got here, it was till out of control so Tuscaloosa brought 2 ladder trucks and a hazmat unit because there were chemicals on site,” Oakley said.
