Trustees praise Dallas’ effort to ban most out-of-school suspensions and rethink its discipline policies
DISD officials outlined options that include creating a new position at high school and middle school campuses to offer support to students who have been removed from classes.

Faced with data showing that the district disproportionately punishes its Black students with exclusionary policies, Dallas is closer to banning discretionary out-of-school suspensions and drastically rethinking what the district’s in-school suspensions should look like to keep students on track.
