Geoff Martin says ,”Created in the late 1960’s, municipal governments didn’t have a whole lot to do. They did transportation and they did policing and fire protection, but they didn’t have a whole lot to do with social side, homelessness issue and housing.” He says they serve a more important role now. Martin says it’s important to elect the right people, “That means coming out and voting. Federal and provincial governments have abandoned certain things, and municipal governments have taken them on, like housing for instance. That raises the stakes in terms of the importance of municipal elections.’
