public eye. i remember watergate, i was old enough to realize what was going on. those were real set of hearings that developed real material. a real somber time for our country. what is he doing talking about this? i don t know again, i m not a lawyer. although i do know larry tribe. i met him in the coffee shop at one point. did you get an a-minus? i do not know whether it s possible to pardon someone who s not been convicted or at least accused or indicted. so i don t know that preemptive pardoning is possible. i made that up. that i know. and trump s posture though is i have done nothing wrong. right. so he s certainly not going to take this up in any instance unless he were actually under threat of indictment or had been convicted of something. i think the reality is that to jeremy s point, the practical political reality is a president moving to pardoning himself
with the positive again, i think from an optics standpoint, i give this i give the trump white house a b-plus, a-minus. in terms of the substance we don t know. but in terms of the optics i have to give the white house a solid b-plus for this. i think they did a pretty good job. all right. we ll take a very quick break. but up next, more dangerous clashes as protesters and police face off near the g20 summit. nbc s keir simmons is right in the middle of it all. he joins us when we come back. there s nothing more important to me than my vacation.
knew health care was so complicated. it s actually quite stunning how unaware he was of how difficult this was, especially when you think about how easy the but he had never been in politics. no, but anybody who reads the newspaper knows that this stuff is not easy. he promised his voters, this is going to be really easy he thought from the sheer force of his leadership, charisma, whatever, that he was going to be able to do things that really nobody can do. it s a combination of this is kind of par for the course and, yeah, he really had no idea what he was getting himself into. so interesting, because i was talking anecdotally to these trump supporters down at the nra convention just now. they love him. yep. they love him, i said, grade him, a-minus, people aren t giving him as much of a chance, they were saying to me. they love that he tweets and that they do feel like he will fulfill those promises. do you think people are being too tough on him in these first 100 days?
kevin is good enough to be here and darryl are with me. both of whom voted for president trump. gentlemen, thank you both so much for taking the time. our pleasure. yeah, our pleasure. thanks for having us. kevin, you first, and then dale. first 100 days, how s he done? give me a grade for president trump. you know, i d give him an a-minus right now. he s trying to do wonderful things for all americans out there. it s a tough job coming in as president and trying to unite everybody. i think he s doing a good job of trying to bring it together and, again, make america great again. you know, i feel like president trump s done a real good job instead of giving him a grade i want to have people give him a better chance instead of booing him or telling him he s not doing his job and being against him, give him a chance. he s just 99 days today, 100 days. so we need to work with the guy
we talked about republicans. i think we should take a look at the sound bite and see how they did. it was pretty interesting. here it is. franklin delano roosevelt once said i ask you to judge me by the enemies i have made. you ve all made a few people upset over your political careers. which enemy are you most proud of. secretary clinton? well, in addition to the nra, the health insurance companies, the drug companies, the iranians, probably the republicans. well, so that was her sense of humor. we heard the laughs, from mostly democrats. how did the democrats respond? how did the independents respond? the democrats loved it. they gave her an a-minus. the independents overall they were climbing along. they liked it okay. it was sort of partisan so they gave her a c. republicans obviously said it s too far. the thing that was disappointing here is that a lot of the republicans were liking the message that they heard from hillary. she did a really good job in the debate but
