ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. A man is behind bars while an officer and another person are in the hospital following a confrontation that ended in gunfire Wednesday night in Las Cruces.
A Las Cruces Police Department spokesman Jason Sauceda said an update on conditions and injuries to the two “will follow.” Joel Orozco, 28, was arrested in the incident.
Sauceda said around 2 p.m. a LCPD officer pulled over Orozco for reckless driving outside the Dona Ana Park Apartments, near Solano and Main. He said Orozco, who had a felony warrant out, tried to flee when officers attempted to arrest him.
Sauceda said Orozco dragged one of the officers as he drove off and hit a utility pole. He said the other officer fired “at least one round” at the SUV and the occupants ditched the vehicle in the complex.
