A Greene County Sheriff’s Office deputy was able to apprehend a suspect from a burglary in progress Tuesday morning. The office was notified of the attempted burglary at approximately 6:10 a.m. in the 200 block of East Hager Street in Grand Junction. Upon arrival, 34-year-old Candice Marie Ortiz was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary, fifth-degree theft and fifth-degree criminal mischief. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, Ortiz remained in custody at the Greene County jail.

A Greene County Sheriffâs Office deputy was seriously hurt when hit by a suspect vehicle during a pursuit through Greene and Polk counties Friday, Dec. 11.
In a statement on social media Friday night, GCSO identified the injured deputy as Lt. Steven Westbrook, who has worked with the department for 24 years.Â
Westbrook, 55, remains in serious but stable condition, the statement said.Â
According to a news release from the Greene County Sheriffâs Office, deputies had responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Rt. WW in Springfield for a domestic disturbance.
As deputies remained in the area, trying to locate the suspect, the person drove back by the victimâs house. Deputies then attempted to initiate a car stop, the release stated.
