Gov. Gretchen Whitmer used her State of the State address Wednesday night to call on the Legislature to make a $2-an-hour temporary hazard pay increase for direct care workers permanent beyond the coronavirus pandemic.
The $2-an-hour hazard pay originated in the CARES Act passed by Congress last March as the national economy was in a freefall and the home health care industry started experiencing worker shortages.
