[cheers and applause] . neil: it s over. our long national nightmare is over. all right, which wasn t a national nightmare, i mean, it wasn t that long in the scheme of things, a few days, it just seemed like a few centuries, but it is over. kevin mccarthy at 1:39 a.m. formally getting the gavel to become speaker of the house, but it s what s left after all of that that has a lot of people wondering. alexandria hoff followed this from the beginning with how it ended. what a great compilation it was. it showed how much back and forth has happened in four days. there were moments last night where i felt like i was watching the u.k. house of commons rather
somewhat under control when he arrived and blowing it up in their words. white house correspondent peter doocy has details tonight from the north lawn. good evening, peter. peter: good evening, bret. the white house says they are aware that one of those planes carrying migrants may soon touch down at an airport near president biden s beach house in delaware. and, in the meantime, president biden is telling us that the reason for this influx of migrants at the border is changing. immigrants coming from central america and from mexico. this is a totally different circumstance. peter: totally different because central america and mexico are not in the so-called northern triangle the vice president has been focusing on. the president asked me to take on the role of leadership in addressing the root causes of migration. and to focus on the northern triangle countries. peter: that could be el salvador, honduras and guatemala. what s on my watch now is venezuela, cuba, a
the homeowner s policy will cover somebody things but the flood policy covers probably the most significant risk for most homeowners in florida given the risk of flooding we have in our state. we are sensitive to that obviously going to be some folks that are in need of support and relief we will work as best we can i will say people have been asking about some of the overall homeowner s insurance with like citizens. citizens, i think right now they are between 6 and 700 billion of surplus. modeling in terms of paying out a lot of money in claims still have 4 and 5 billion in surplus. they view themselves as being able to weather this. individual carriers they have to go through a stress test to have policies approved. this year they had tested under a direct impact on tampa bay and what would happen they have policy and reinsurance and wrap program and cap fund. citizens feel strongly they will be able to handle this and still have pretty significant reserves. okay. thanks s
scott desjardins, because he is not negotiating and they are having an amicable conversation, and he is not negotiating, and so maybe he has to change the posture, but jim jordan is about to speak, and the expectation is to signal the supporters to support kevin mccarthy, and he is a close ally of mccarthy, and they have developed a close tie over the years, and this is a key source of the alliance between jordan and mccarthy. will jordan say, come vote and tell his six supporters to vote for mccarthy potentially, yes. will that change the math, no. this is still some paperwork is being done, and once that vote is being officially closed, and they will move on to the second vote, and the clerk of the house is about to make an announcement, and we will have the second vote to take place, and the conservatives is going to announce a potentially second nominee, and we will see if that is going to play out, but kevin mccarthy is certainly to fall short, and not expecting to step
alphabetical order, they didn t even get past the cs, sealing a round one loss in a matter of minutes. mccarthy failing to whittle down the small but significant group of republican outliars all dead set on voting against him. the damage a failed first vote like this will inflict on the speakership position from the get go even if he does win, if it s a mess for republicans, a mess for mccarthy and it is shaping up to be a long day ahead for the brand-new 118th congress. he reminded reporters he holds the record for the longest speech ever delivered on the house floor, saying he doesn t care if he gets a similar vote for most speaker vote rounds. we will see if that holds and he sticks to his guns there. joining me from capitol hill, we have garrett haake. also with me, punch bowl news cofounder and nbc news contributor, anna palmer, as well as susan page. buckle up, everybody. we ve got an hour ahead of us here. beginning with you, garrett, walk us through what is happening
