Memorial at CPD headquarters for fallen officer

Victoria Young Shock, anger and sadness are sweeping over the community with the death of Officer Jason Shuping, who was killed in the line of duty Wednesday night in Concord. City officials announced Thursday afternoon that a candlelight vigil will be held tonight in Shuping s honor. More details about the vigil will be released this morning.  A procession from the Charlotte Medical Examiner s Office to Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell began around 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. Shuping joined CPD in 2019 and served as an officer for a year and a half. He died at the age of 25. Shuping was from Salisbury and graduated from East Rowan High School in 2014. He also attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he was a former track team member.

The Concord Police Department released the names of the fallen officer and an injured officer around 11:10 a.m. Thursday. Officer Jason Shuping was killed in the line of duty Wednesday, Dec. 16. He was 25 years old and had served on the force for a year and a half. The CPD statement giving his name read: Today we are mourning the loss of a beloved family member who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty late Wednesday night. Officer Jason Shuping has served the citizens of Concord and the Concord Police Department since 2019. All will truly miss him.
