Habibullah Sirajee, director general of Bangla Academy, confirmed the date yesterday. He said, “The book fair will start on March 18. I can’t say more at this moment.” “We will give details on the duration of the book fair. Many people were in confusion, so I am just confirming the date. “Our designers will make design of locations of the stalls, considering the coronavirus situation,” he added.
Usually, the book fair begins on February 1 each year.
The decision of holding the book fair at the usual venue was made earlier, but the date was not confirmed.

President M Abdul Hamid on Wednesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of renowned playwright, theatre activist and filmmaker Mannan Hira.
In a condolence message, the head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
A Bangla Academy Award-winner, Mannan Hira suffered a cardiac arrest at his Kakrail residence in the capital. Later, he was rushed to Islami Bank Hospital at Shahjahanpur, where doctors declared him dead at 8:30 pm, said a family source.
Mannan Hira was 64. He is survived by his wife and a son.
