In its Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said this raised the active case tally to 77,369 out of a total of 2,910,664 confirmed infections since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. The number of fresh infections on Friday exceeded anew Thursday's 17,220 new cases. Meanwhile, 973 new recoveries raised the recovery count to 2,781,424, or 95.6 percent of all known infections. Of these new cases, it said 99 percent or 21,656 cases occurred within December 25 to January 7, with the National Capital Region (NCR) reporting the highest number of infections at 13,634 or 63 percent, Region 4A at 4,129 or 19 percent, and Region 3 at 2,084 or 10 percent during the said period. ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Department of Health (DOH) 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula) has urged senior citizens anew on Wednesday to submit themselves for vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19). Dr. Augusto Manolo Alpichi, DOH-9 assistant director, made the call after observing that the number of fully vaccinated senior citizens has yet to reach 50 percent of the 23,488 total eligible population for the elderly here. Alpichi said they have recorded 111,557 senior citizens who were fully vaccinated since the vaccination program started in March this year. The figure represents 46.97 percent of the total eligible elderly population. "We encourage our elderly to get themselves vaccinated since there is a low turnout for the A2 priority group which has yet to reach 50 percent," he said. He noted that the senior citizens under the A2 priority group were among those who were given priority under the vaccination program since they are vulnerable to Covid-19 infection. He said
