ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A social justice organization is working to fight what they are calling a utility bill crisis in Albany.
The group 9 to 5 just started accepting applications for its utility justice fellowship program for the second year in a row in Albany. The program studies and organizes around utility and social issues.
Joanna Jackson said she has always tried to be active in her community and help others. But last year when she joined 9 to 5, she was also trying to help herself.

9 to 5, co-starring Parton, the lyrics tell the story of an ambitious, hard-working woman with a job that barely pays the bills and a boss who takes her ideas without giving her credit. It’s a song about keeping your spirits up while railing at a system that’s rigged against you. “It’s a rich man’s game / No matter what they call it,” Parton concludes, “And you spend your life / Putting money in his wallet.”

Who knew that the movie 9 to 5 was inspired by Cleveland secretaries? Or that clerical workers at the University of Cincinnati and Cuyahoga Community College played a pivotal role in the 9to5 grassroots labor movement of the 1970s and 80s to get equal pay and benefits for women office workers?

9to5: The Story Of A Movement, a 90-minute documentary by Emmy- and Oscar-winning filmmakers Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar airing Monday Feb. 1 on PBS
