but i ve stood in favor of traditional marriage and traditional relationships. is being gay a choice? well, the science in that regard is in dispute. scientists work on that, try to figure out if it s behavioral or partly genetic. what do you think? well, i d defer to the scientists in that regard. so, you think it s not a choice, that you are, as lady gaga says, you re born that way? well, there s no scientific conclusion that it s genetic. we don t know that. so, we don t know to what extent it s behavioral. it s something that s been debated by scientists for a long time. but as i understand the science, there s no current conclusion that it s genetic. all right. governor pawlenty, lots more debate to come. we ll be watching on the campaign trail. thank you. coming up, what does the politics of the debate mean for 2012? plus, a look at how the rest of the republican field is shaping up. analysis from the washington post s eugene robinson and nbc s chuck todd. 8gg
