(File photo) MANILA - The Philippines' total number of active Covid-19 cases dropped to 11,255 after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 509 new recoveries on Sunday. In its latest case bulletin, the DOH said the country's recovered cases also reached 2,775,057 or 97.8 percent of the total case count of 2,836,592 since the start of the pandemic last year. The DOH, meanwhile, tallied 402 new infections, including 380 cases tallied from Nov. 29 to Dec. 12. "The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (98 or 26 percent), Region 4-B (42 or 11 percent) and Region 4-A (37 or 10 percent)," the DOH said. Among active cases, 4,334 are mild, 876 are asymptomatic, 401 are critical, 1,961 are severe, and 3,683 are moderate. The death toll has reached 50,280 with 184 new deaths. Those undergoing treatment or isolated are 11,373, or 0.4 percent of the 2,836,360 confirmed cases since the pandemic began in March last year. The agency also reported 878 new recoveries, pushing the number to 2,774,891 or 97.8 percent of all cases. There were also 135 new fatalities that increasedthe death toll to 50,096. From 1.3 percent on December 8, the positivity rate further went down to 1.1 percent the following day, based on 35,320 individuals tested. Of the active cases, the DOH said 902 are asymptomatic, 4,328 are mild, 3,747 are moderate, 1,991 are severe, and 405 are critical. About 23 percent of the 3,700 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 24 percent of the 19,800 isolation beds, and 14 percent of the 12,300 ward beds dedicated for Covid-19 patients nationwide are currently occupied. This translates to a decline in cases from the 562 new infections reported on Thursday, according to the latest Covid-19 bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH). Friday's fresh infections are a little more than the 356 new cases logged on Tuesday, the lowest single-day number of cases recorded in the country. This brought the active cases to 11,905, lower than Thursday's 12,169. Of the active cases, most have mild symptoms at 4,860, those with moderate symptoms at 3,797, those with severe symptoms at 2,060, those asymptomatic at 757, and those in critical condition at 431.
