onto an amendment. what s amazing to me is that this huge grassroots movement is not being covered by the major media. so we are happy to have you on the show to talk about it, ben. i guess i wonder a couple things. we talk about corporations and whether or not they are people or not people. one thing you guys ben & jerry has been involved in the political debate and social responsibility. you pay a livable wage to your workers at $15.70 a year last year. how did you get interested in money in politics? i think money in politics is literally the root of all evil in politics. you know, no matter what issue it is that you care most about, whether it s the environment, education, the financial
because people saw passion there where they feel that mitt romney has either flip-flopped or he s been very flat. but does he have to pivot to economic issues? i think for the next few days, he s got to stay on the social issues part. you noticed last night romney made a very aggressive comment about obama trying to get rid of religion in america. i think what you see in the primaries, whenever he tries to veer to the economy, they gain on him. he has to stay in the over the top rhetoric to win the primaries, to win michigan and arizona. he can t go back to the old economic only romney because that doesn t work in the primary. congresswoman, one final point. we haven t talked really about ron paul. but he brought up $6 gas in florida. and you were talking about issues that are important to the middle class. i looked it up, there are a couple of stations in the orlando area where they re in the $5.70 plus range.
blameless. but certainly over the past two years it s the policies of barack obama. now, this is not just political partisanship, this is not just, look, the economy s in the tank and, therefore, it s all barack obama s fault. we re not saying that. but it s the policies that barack obama has put in place, megyn, that has launched us into this direction. no one not no one, but 65%, 70% of americans didn t want obamacare. they didn t want a $2.5 trillion down payment for government-run health care. they didn t want a stimulus bill that cost a trillion dollars. now, we ve lost two and a half million jobs since that program. it s the policies of barack obama, it s his inaction, it s his obsession with campaigning instead of getting things done, and it s the democrats not delivering a budget, playing this game of rope a dope which means every time the republicans try to address these issues they try to vilify every single republican. they re launching an ad today,
but we ve stalled well behind the all-time high of $4.11 a gallon. that was back in 2008. however, one gas station in orlando has decided to put the petal to the metal. on friday, sun coast energy near the orlando airport was charging $5.69 a gallon for regular. that s the highest price in the nation. what is wrong with people like that? honestly, that is just supply versus demand, my first hand. i was going to say, you guys know that. but it s obnoxious. we ve been surmising that that s the gas station at which if you re renting a car, because it s been spring break, that s the place where you say, there s a gas station, i ll fill my car up before i return it. and it s $5.70. but now the local government the orlando says as of august, all the gas stations have to comply by putting the big signs at the side of the road. aren t there price gouging law? only when there s a hurricane or something with gas. i think gas stations get hit
