reporter: united airlines hit the hardest with its departures cut drastically for four straight days out of its hub, newark. its ceo, scott kirby, now apologizing to staff and customers after he couldn t get a seat on his own airline, and took a private jet instead. kirby saying in a statement, taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home. and tonight, delta scrambling to meet the deadline for the faa s 5g requirements. starting today, all passenger and cargo planes must be outfitted with specialized equipment that work with the new 5g towers. without it, planes can t land during bad weather. delta saying it will work throughout the summer to make sure all 900 of its narrow-body aircraft are outfitted. tonight, the faa now investigating severe turbulence that struck this hawaiian airlines flight from honolulu to sydney, australia, on friday. the airline saying seven passengers and crew members were treated by a
busiest travel periods of the year. there s a chance it could create headaches for people travelling the next weekend and the next few months. starting this saturday, wireless network will lose the power on their 5g towers near airports. airplanes will be required to have updated equipment to make sure the 5g signals don t interfere with their ability to land in bad weather conditions. if the plane doesn t have that updated equipment, they wouldn t be allowed to land in low visibility conditions, this new rule will impact around 20% of domestic aircraft and nearly a third of international planes flying to the u.s. if there s bad weather, that could lead to even more delays and cancellations. some industry groups say it raises safety concerns. even if faa says there s safety implications to flying an aircraft that is infected by this signal disparities.
