The company added that it will refarm its mid-band airwaves (read: 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz) once 25-30% smart devices in circulation become 5G-enabled from around 10-12% now, according to BofA Securities, which participated at SingTel’s analyst day event that hosted Bharti Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal and CFO Soumen Ray.
Bharti Airtel: The DoT has excluded the 6 GHz from the upcoming sale. The telcos and tech industry have been engaged in a fight over the 6 GHz band, with the former batting for the bandwidth to be auctioned while tech companies want it allocated administratively for Wi-Fi. But the DoT so has yet to take a final call on the matter.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has initiated the process for the next round of 5G spectrum auction in India. It has requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to determine the reserve price for various bands, which could be valued at around ₹2.5 lakh crore. The auction will include unsold airwaves from the previous sale as well as additional spectrum in the 37 GHz band.
