were winning on election day. again, i think this is a clear and present warning sign of what we may be looking at two years down the road. separate from the issue of whether or not there are enough votes in 2000 we went to 537 in the end. this is a lot of terrain to uncover, but let the process unfold. the basic principle is clear and shouldn t be controversial, count every vote. for those votes that claim to their apathy that their vote doesn t count, but it does matter and you have to show up. the gop is trying to sue to stop certain mail-in ballots from being counted. what is the rational? i will shock you and say it s situational ethics. it s maricopa county and they are afraid the write-in ballots
welcome back, everyone. the florida races for senate and governor getting even tighter tonight, are both headed for a recount in states famous, or you could say infamous for that grueling, remember, 36-day recount battle between george w. bush and al gore in 2000 that just kept us hostage forever. keith boykin is here as well as alice stewart. we don t want to relive those days. that was painful. good evening to both of you. keith, give me your reaction to what s happening in florida. it s very disturbing. you remember florida 2000. 537 votes decided that election in 2000. today we re in a race where we re at less than 0.5% of the vote between andrew gillum and rick desantis. a quarter of a percent between rick scott and bill nelson. there s a guaranteed recount in both races. and rick scott going on
a rose between the thorns. steve: we re having flashbacks to 2001. bush versus gore. they are 537. we are talking 10 of thousands. tens of thousands i read a new account of the tally it changes. they find a box here, a box. there who needs russian collusion old school democratic party machinery there. i lament the way politics pollutes something that should be a citizens, you know, aspect of life. steve: come on. the remember the hanging chads though, steve? seemed to me the will of the people was not represented. rather it became the will of party official who was holding the chad up to the light. i m very worried. florida law since then improved. now you have this automatic machine recount within half a percent. manuel recount within a quarter of a percent. i think the big news, just how
lost. so, what similarities does this have to the infamous 2,000 recount between president bush and al gore? here to react is brad blakeman former deputy assistant to president george w. bush and h.w. bush and advisor to the bush-cheney campaign. brad, what s the difference between these two recounts and one big recount for president? in 2,000 and this election, it s numbers. it was 537 votes in the state of florida. the millions of votes cast in 2,000. now it s like 30,000 votes. but it s always the two counties, the democratic strong holds that seem to have the most shenanigans played. that s broward and palm beach county. i saw it during the 2,000 recount. it s basically telling the campaigns how many votes do you need as opposed to how many votes do we have? and they find votes in the trunks of carses. they find them in hallways. they don t use the they use an expedited voting system. which is totally subjective.
was 537 votes. so obviously a wider margin potentially going into it. i think the story we had in florida was, this felt, watching these returns come in last night, standing here, i had flashbacks to 2016. i wasflashbacks to 2016. you saw the early returns in the polling heading into the election in 2016 favoring hillary clinton. you saw it last night the polling heading into it in the early returns. favoring bill nelson and then what happened. you started getting the same day vote. the people who actually waited to election day to turn out then. you saw the race turn and really where you saw it turn was the gulf coast and up here. rick scott started to get much stronger performance when the same day vote came in in the key counties. this is a place that donald trump, there was surge trump support in 2016. we can show you trump got 55% here. rick scott ended up match iing . that s one of the counties you lock back and say it s the reason trump won florida, one of
