50-Hour Slam Artistic constraints can often breed creativity rather than restrict it. The extreme pressure of not having unlimited time and resources can sometimes make a diamond out of coal. That’s the hope for the local filmmakers competing in this year’s 50 Hour Slam short film festival. Teams have 50 hours to do all the steps in making a 3- to 6-minute short: writing the script, finding locations, wardrobe, shooting, editing, etc. Their hastily completed final projects, undertaken in March, then get a grand screening at the Bing Crosby Theater for all their friends, family and the public to enjoy. You never know what to expect from these films, and the unpredictability is part of the cinematic thrill.
