In 2020 Apple Watch was the Global Leader, Tripling Second Place Huawei s Shipments
A new analytical report published today pointed out that global smartwatch shipments in Q4 2020 saw a slight YoY decrease to book an almost flat 2020 due to the impact of COVID-19. In a year where annual growth inched forward at only 1.5%, Apple maintained its solid number one position and increased its market share by 6% points, helping shift the overall market closer to the premium segment. Overall, Apple delivered 19% Year-over-Year growth.
The Apple Watch Series 6 and SE did well, shipping 12.9 million units and accounting for 40% market share in Q4 2020. Samsung increased its share by 1%pt YoY, rebounding in the latter half of the year with the launch of its Galaxy 3 Watch.
Last week the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published two of Samsung s latest patent applications relating to their future Augmented/Virtual glasses. The first patent is the one that s most interesting in that it describes snap-on prescription glasses that uses a magnetics system. Of course the inspiration came from one or more Apple patents on this front. So it s a race to market.
Apple won 55 Patents today covering Apple Pencil with Force Sensing & 3D Orientation, Wireless Chargers, Mac Pro Design+
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 55 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we briefly cover an Apple Pencil invention that includes force sensing and 3D orientation. Apple was also granted two patents relating to wireless charging systems covering temperature sensing and charging AirPods. Apple was also granted two design patents, with one being for the Mac Pro tower s Lattice design. Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund Assists COPAN Diagnostics in shipping millions of COVID-19 Test Kits
With support from Apple’s Advanced Manufacturing Fund, COPAN Diagnostics has shipped more than 15 million COVID-19 test kits to medical facilities across the country.
Apple posted a press release this morning stating that after receiving $10 million from their Advanced Manufacturing Fund, COPAN Diagnostics has now shipped more than 15 million COVID-19 sample collection kits for communities across the country.
Teams at Apple, COPAN, and more than a dozen other US companies created innovative processes and developed new machinery for COPAN’s Southern California facilities, increasing test-kit production by close to 4,000 percent since April.
Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to a new cooling fan system for Macs in general with the iMac being emphasized. As Apple Silicon brings greater speeds and graphics power to future Macs, Apple engineers decided that the Mac s cooling system needed an overhaul.
