it s truly, truly remarkable how tight these two races are. first the florida senate race, governor rick scott now at 50.1% of the vote to democrat bill nelson 4.%. only .2 percentage points celebratseparate those two men. ron desantis 49.6 to andrew gillum mayor of tallahassee 49.2%. only .4 percentage points separate those two. that s that as canvassing board members face a big deadline today. a 12 noon deadline to submit the first unofficial results. but, still there are many uncounted ballots. ballots not counted including 2100 mail-in ballots. a handful of early voting ballots as well as military and overseas ballots. the governor s race so close that it has triggered a machine recount in the senate race closer still, meaning that it has triggered a hand recount. a more rigorous hand recount which will take some time.
closely. now, we won t know anything. and i cannot stress this enough. we won t know anything for sure until saturday at noon because that s when the first unofficial results are due in all 67 counties in florida. but we have talked about this. we have talked about the razor thin margins in florida. i want to share these latest numbers with you because the margins have narrowed. in the senate race, rick scott 50.1%. bill nelson, 49.9%. that s a 0.2% margin with 99% of the results in. now, as you mentioned, scott has declared victory. nelson has not conceded. we re expecting to hear from him or his camp in a press conference shortly. now to the governor s race, ron desantis is at 49.6%. andrew gillum at 49.1%. that s with 99% of the results. desantis has declared victory.
and, yet, right now democrats are projected to we ve already called two of them in northern virginia and in florida. flipping from republican control to democratic control. now democrats only need to flip 21 more and mait s only 8:30. they re leading in 15 of those districts right now. so there s potential that the democrats clearly have. let s look at how close the contest for florida senate, florida governor, are right now. we ll put the numbers up on the screen so our viewers can see them because it s getting very, very close in both. there s still plenty of votes jout sta outstanding. rick scott ahead 50.4% to 49.6%. he s ahead by 56,000 votes. 92% of the vote is in. but there s still plenty of democratic votes out in those southern florida counties, mi i miami-da miami-dade, and broward county. we ll see what happens in florida. that s the senate contest. in the gubernatorial contest, look at how close it is right now. 49.9%-48.8%. 92% of the vote is in.
democrats look like they re on track to have a good night. one thing that i would like to point out of the races that we just called, pennsylvania and ohio were purple states or blue states even in the case of pennsylvania that trump won, and yet both governor wolf of pennsylvania and senator sherrod brown of ohio won re-election pretty easily. even though there were a lot of hopes republicans would be able to pick them up pick up the senate seat in look at florida right now, how tight it s getting in the florida gubernatorial contest and the florida senate contest right now. it s getting very tight. well, because a lot of the polls are coming in from the western part of the state i would assume. andrew gillum, 49.6%. ron desantis, republican, 49.2%. 23,500 votes ahead for andrew gillum. look at the senate right now. the senate contest, bill nelson is ahead by about 44,000 votes over rick scott, the governor,
may last into december. right now brian kemp is slightly ahead. but he may get 49.5 or 49.6% of the vote. can you imagine all the star power that would come during a run-off. she s the first nominated in the country for a governorship. this is a very interesting story. two african-americans in the south running for governor in a region that obviously has its history. wouldn t it be something if they both one? we should note, brian kemp, as secretary of state, effectively oversees this election. many have called for him to resign as secretary of state. obvious conflict of interest there. there has been a lot of talk about messing with voting machines, et cetera there.
