georgia s secretary of state earlier today. he and his campaign team claim the race is over and kemp won. steve harrigan reporting live from atlanta. shepard, you have the unusual situation here of one side going on about its business as if this campaign is over. brian kemp said he won the election as governor of georgia, that he s forming his new team to take over. on the other side though, stacey abrams is saying there s still enough votes out there to possibly force a run-off. stacey abrams has been fighting for people her whole life. we re going to keep fighting for every voter. camp has 50.3% of the vote out of four million votes cast. he has a 60,000 vote lead. this has been a bitter campaign from the get-go. there s 25,000 potential votes out there, absentee and provisional votes that have yet to be counted.
bringing forth new litigation on bea half of one county where the mail-in ballots were affected by hurricane michael. speaking of the legality of all of this, that is why we are in front of this federal courthouse, and five individual georgia voters who brought a case against former secretary kemp who says that he cannot crown himself governor while he was overseeing that election, and now they have had their desires answered because he is no longer going to be overseeing the election, but andrea, the numbers right now, and interesting thin in georgia in order to win the race, you have to have more than 50% of the vote, and kemp has 50.3 and abrams has 48.7, but that is the issue that the team is bringing up, because there are thousands and provisional absentee ballots not counted and deadline for friday at 5:00 p.m. for anybody who has the provisional ballot issues if you were in the mi military or the overseas, those ballots have to be counted by
50.3%. 49.7%. but it is tightening in the past few minutes. it s tightened pretty dramatically. you know what s interesting about this, the conventional wisdom is andrew gillum, because he was a more exciting candidate according to the pundits was helping nelson and pulling nelson across the finish line although we obviously don t know who s going to get across the finish line first. right now, nelson actually has more votes than gillum so perhaps that conventional wisdom, like so much conventional wisdom, was completely wrong. we got a key race alert coming up right now. wolf, look at what we are seeing in texas. the red state of texas, the democrat, bet, o rourke, as we re starting to get votes in is ahead. significantly ahead. 58.5%. ted cruz, the incumbent republican, 49.9%. this, of course, has been a huge marquee race. millions, tens of millions of dollars have poured in for beto o rourke in the hope that he can
have more wages more money in the paycheck, and closing the tax cuts, so clearly that s going to be a big issue and a big talking point in terms of people concerned about nancy pelosi becoming the speaker again. i was with the indie friday in been battling, i think he s got a good chance of winning because he s much more in tune with the district. his opponent says she wants to be the most liberal progressive person in the state of kentucky. kentucky is not a far left pelosi type state. 50.3 percent to 40.5. you know, congressman, were you upset about the focus in the last days of the campaign quest mark ikenna shifted more toward immigration. did you leave the closing arguments should have been more the economy? of the economy is been a
50.3/49.7. 0.6 of one point. we said this earlier, but to remind everybody, one of the reasons you do not see a check mark next to rick scott s name is, there are still potentially some outstanding precincts here. even a slight, and i mean very slight, like one-tenth of a point improvement for nelson in that margin would bring that down to 0.5 of a point, and that would trigger an automatic recount. if you re at half a percent or less, automatic recount. nelson on the cusp of that. not all precincts in. we re still trying to make sense of that completely. it s still the possibility there this could fall within half a percent and go to a recount. hence, there is no call. thank you. we re going to delve into an update on the georgia governor s race on the other side of this break.
