Apple wins a Patent for Multiple Styles of Magnetic Smart Connector Systems
Today the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple a patent that relates to various styles of smart connectors. While wireless charging is the direction Apple is taking, magnetic connectors are still being contemplated by Apple. Apple s first smart magnetic connector was used on the iPad that connected to their Smart Keyboard.
Apple s newly granted patent covers their invention relating to a connector for an accessory device capable of exchanging power and data with an electronic device. In particular, the connector includes recessed contacts that are magnetically actuated by magnets associated with contacts of the electronic device.
Two new Apple HMD Inventions cover Directional Audio Detection and Dust Particle Removal Systems
Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a pair of patent applications from Apple relating to their Head Mounted Display Device project. The first invention covers an audio-based feedback system. Multiple microphones distributed across the head-mountable device will provide the user with directional audio detection. Apple s second invention covers a system that could shake loose floating particle of dust in the lens system that are interfering with the user s view of VR content and/or real-world events.
In Apple s patent background they note that a head-mountable device (HMD) can be worn by a user to display visual information within the field-of-view of the user. The head-mountable device can be used as a virtual reality (VR) system, an augmented reality (AR) system, and/or a mixed reality (MR) system.
Earlier this morning Patently Apple posted a report titled " Apple has been granted a patent for a Hand Gesturing User Interface that could extend to Finger Gesturing & Beyond." While that patent focused on identifying hand gestures using a coherent light source and a generator of a random speckle pattern, much like the system behind Face ID. Today the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office also granted Apple a patent that relates to radar measurements by an electronic device .
According to Apple, virtual content may be difficult to view at peripheral portions of a VR headset display. For example, the virtual content may be clipped-off as the virtual content approaches a peripheral edge of the display. In a patent filing published by the U.S. Patent office on Thursday, Apple provides their solution that addresses this issue.
Apple wins a VR Headset patent that describes the use of powerful cameras and connectivity to a Base Station such a Mac, Game Console +
Earlier this month the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially granted Apple a patent that relates to a mixed reality system including a head-mounted display (HMD) and a base station which could be a Mac, iPhone/iPad or game console to play VR content and more. The headset is equipped with a wide range of cameras that are both interior and exterior to capture both the real world and users expressions, eye movements hand gestures.
